Newbiggin Art Workshops

Incorporating Drawing Essentials and Just Paint It!

Alex is a Professional Associate with the Society for All Artists and has been teaching art for over twenty years. For these workshops/classes she has been sponsored by the SAA, who have supplied materials. Participants will also receive a complimentary copy of the SAA magazine should they so wish.
Workshops can be attended as standalone sessions, or as a combination of sessions. The choice is yours!

Price – £15 per session, includes tuition, room hire, some materials and tea/coffee.
All sessions run from 2–4pm on Monday afternoons at Newbiggin (near Stainton, Penrith) Village

Week Five – Feb 23rd

Drawing Essentials
It Doesn’t Feel Like Drawing…But It Is.
Using different materials to explore mark making and expression in drawing.
Developing sensitivity and confidence.

Week Six – March 2nd

Just Paint It!
The Art of Surprise!
Exploring and learning to control the unpredictability of watercolour
Washes and Flowers

Week Seven – March 9th

Drawing Essentials
Shadow Play
Light and Dark – creating contrast, drama and depth
Using Tone to create the powerful effect of light and shade.
Giving shape to your drawings.
Materials provided.

Week Eight – March 16th

Just Paint It!
Creating whites.
Watercolour and techniques for masking out
Please bring a craft knife if you have one.
Other materials supplied.

Week Nine – March 23rd

Drawing Essentials
Shadow Play
How To Make a Picture “Work” – Composition
Exploring Negative shapes, the Golden Section and the Rule of Thirds
Natural form and man-made objects
Materials supplied

Week Ten – March 30th

Just Paint It!
John Piper and the House of Wax
Churches, monuments, castles and ruins.
Atmospheric use of mixed media.
Materials and images supplied – but feel free to bring an image of your own.
